About Wild Onion Market

Wild Onion Market is an independent grocery store owned by the community. We serve the public seven days a week from 8 am to 9 pm. Now accepting EBT, all are welcome to shop!

Wild Onion Market is an asian grocery store in Chicago, Illinois. It is listed at 7007 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60626, which places it among the local businesses of Chicago that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Chicago with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in Illinois may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (773) 831-7268. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is wildonionmarket.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 146 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded asian grocery stores in Chicago.

Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. Traffic in Chicago peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

It's fine for dropping by for a quick snack but only crunchy overly tanned Gen x vegans actually shop there. For being a place that's all about local produce they have absolutely terrible produce and almost no selection. The Cajun restaurant that's inside has fine food but insane prices to the point that it feels like a grift, like they found the idiot yuppies who will pay 16$ for a thimbleful of red beans and rice and they're running with it. The bakery makes the hardest loaves you've ever broken a tooth on and I once got a loaf of sourdough there that was moldy by the next morning. The lacroixs are surprisingly cheap tho. If you want a local non-chain grocery try the market by the Morse stop or the fruit/veg place on Clark and Rogers, but the wild onion has a vibe of moral superiority that keeps me from ever spending real money there Very much worth noting that all of the low star reviews are from people with Spanish names, in a predominantly Latino neighborhood πŸ‘€ this is absolutely a gentrification project and the fact that many of their workers are Gen z queers does not change that. As another reviewer put it, there are already two Latino-owned grocery stores within two blocks

Wild Onion Market keeps getting better. Today I discovered 4 Suns Kitchen has joined the market, and in addition to a menu that looks amazing, they make delicious fresh pressed juices. I met one of the lovely owners, and she even gave me a sample of a new juice she is going to add to their menu. More power to this little co-op that could!!

Small grocery co-op. Their plant based and non BPA tooth brushes are so affordable. The produce was pretty picked over on my visit. Would love to see even more options in the bulk dry goods section.

I’ve been a member since 2019 and a customer since the store opened. I really like the employees. It’s higher-priced than the average grocery store, which I understand as it’s a co-op. I shop to support them and to keep co-ops going here in Chicago, although I mostly buy things from the bi-weekly sales. It’s nice that they also mark down items about to expire. The reduced produce section could be improved.

Excellent co-op grocery store with nice selection of local & organic items, friendly helpful staff, and a welcoming environment. Recently added some good new grab & go items in the deli area. Watch the flyers for frequent sales.

Really nice local co op with a lot of vegan options I usually don't even find in others stores! Good looking grab and go meals too. Produce section is rather dire in the winter unfortunately but during other seasons there's a lot of local produce. Also a really nice bulk section. Can be on the pricey side

I've shopped at food co-ops ever since my college days at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, enjoying the quality of the offerings, the whole idea of adding to the local economy, and the good feeling of being in the store.. I've been delighted to find those qualities in my newest go-to grocery co-op, Wild Onion Market, and I've become an owner because I want to be part of the store's longterm success. The photos included here show just a few of my many favorite, local products!

I am so excited the Wild Onion Market is open for business. As an owner for 10 years there has been a lot of work put in place for OUR store and the dream has come alive. I see there are some low star reviews and I understand the sentiment, but WOM is new and will have to learn along the way. Not everything works out at opening, but with time things will get better. I also understand the sentiment of pricing. I try to remember that while somethings may be less at Jewel, supporting the co-op takes away that money from someone that doesn't care about the community and puts it back in ours. If we support our community grocery store and spend a little more upfront, later it pays back by lowering prices and contributes more to the community! And as an owner that could be dividends. Thank you to the community for accepting us.
